happydrunkrd2:18pm: Burke Lake with Cat
Cat was kind enough to help me out test my new lighting equipment. i recently purchased an extra small softbox and a 43" shoot through umbrella. well, i got to actually use them yesterday! i've learned that i like to photograph with lots of sky. unfortunately it was hazy out and overcast when we went to burke lake. so there were lots of photos where the sky would stay completly white. the first photo, my favorite from all of them by the way, was the only one where we had a bit of blue show up in the sky. i've also noticed that if i were to walk around locations, the softbox gets to be a pain to have to set up and break down each time, so i used the umbrella for most of the photos. i still need to learn where to position the light. either way, she was fun to photograph and i hope we'll get to do so again!

happydrunkrd9:05am: beach fun!
i was wondering when i would be able to use my recently purchased lightstand at the beach. but i actually got some use out of it as i photographed some friends goofing around. i thought it was pretty sweet to use. much better than me having to hold the flash with one hand, or use a tripod that doesn't reach as high. by the way, who brings lightstands to the beach?!

bloodblooms7:26pm: oh d200 people. I am looking for a wide angle lens that may also do some decent macro shots. Does that exist? any suggestions for a beginner on a budget? I know this sounds absurd but a nikon lens would be lovely, unless you know of off brand that will work. As I will most likely search for used anyhow.

bloodblooms8:22pm: help, if possible :)
So, a clueless question, coming from someone who bought d200 and I don't know if this is normal, perhaps it is my lens because it is af but not nikkor and yeah I think there is something up with it. So there is lines running through my photos not straight either, barely noticeable unless you look. I haven't printed any of them yet, but I assume it will come through if it is on my screen.I am a little frustrated just because I think I bought a camera that was too much for me perhaps. Has this happened to anyone, any easy fixes could it be my less than spectacular lens?

happydrunkrd1:24pm: Out in the snow...
yesterday's snow was pretty awesome. i took some time to walk around in the snow, just to take the camera our for a stroll. it was still snowing pretty hard out too. i was out there for at least 30 mins and by the time i got back in, my camera was soaked! but it still works. glad to know it can handle weather situations like this so well!

bloodblooms7:57am: Please forgive as I am ignorant about my own cameras
I am ordering the d200 tomorrow. It was originally intended to be a d80 but the more I read I realized the d200 was better for the money spent. I have heard it is compatible with any lens that fits on a nikon like a normal nikon would? I only have a quantaray lens (28-90mm) that fits a normal nikon slr (n65). I plan on going to our camera store to purchase a used lens (i know iffy but cheaper). I was wondering if anyone could verify that the first couple weeks that I have this camera that I would be able to use my old lens with it? I am hoping what I read is true I know you have to go through a set up and everythign within the camera. Any info and I will truly be indebted to responders :) thank you!

canyoncat1:16pm: I'm confused
So what else is new I know, but...

I bought this 35mm lens because I wanted the equivalent of a 50mm for my Nikon digitals. This is not a lens that was designed for digital cameras (no DX stamp on it) so technically there should be a 1.5x conversion factor and 35mm x 1.5 = 52.5mm.

However, when I set my 18-200mm lens (a lens that was designed for digital cameras and is stamped as DX) to 35mm I see the exact same thing. Theoretically I should not see the same thing at 35mm but rather at 52.5mm and I really do not understand what is going on.

Anyone care to take a crack at explaining it to me?

happydrunkrd11:41am: peeling?
i've only had my camera since august, but have been using it almost daily for work. the rubber under the front dial on mine is starting to feel loose.

it's not a big deal, but i was curious as to if anybody else has experienced or is experiencing the rubber starting to peel or getting loose on your D200.

if so, what have you done to "fix" it?

this weekend, my roommate and his girlfriend and i were looking for a maize maze to visit. the closest one to us that we found was at Temple Hall Farm Regional Park in Leesburg. that also had a hay ride to a pumkin patch! here are some photos from the adventure!

happydrunkrd9:52am: rentals
i guarantee you that these are not photoshop effects. they were shot with a real tilt shift lens. at work today, we rented the PC Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/2.8 D and the Nikkor AF-S 200-400mm f/4 VR G. what beautiful lenses these were. i went out with the 200-400mm and that thing, weighing a bit more than 7 lbs, tired the hell out of me after hand holding it for less than 5 mins. it's a great lens; focuses faster than my 70-200vr and the vr works great, but it is much heavier. i didn't like the lens because of this. the other lens on the other hand, the pc micro 85mm, was one that i enjoyed very much. i've seen people photoshop the fake tilt shift effects and never cared for them. what was really missing was the bokeh, and that's difficult to emulate. this is the real thing. i think this lens is going on my wish list...

happydrunkrd1:56pm: Vote NO VA
last night after work, i went to to a rally. this was the first rally i've attended. it was about 'vote no on #1' there's more information on http://www.votenova.org/. i didn't go to take any sides, just take pictures. i have a friend who takes a lot of photos at events such as this and has great work; i usually find it too political for my tastes, but his work stands out to me. anyways, i didn't really know how i was to go about photographing at this event. tell me what you think?

gatcat8:15am: 18-200 VR battery drain?
It came, it finally came! Way back in April I got my D200 body and started the long wait for the 18-200 lens. I received it yesterday and have been playing with it, and have a feeling that the vibration reduction feature may be draining the battery much more quickly than my plain old 18-70 was. After I recharge, I'll keep an eye on it and make some notes.

Any other anecdotal backup on this?
